Text Box: Dear Parents/Carers,

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome everybody back for a new school year. As a school we want your child to achieve all that they are capable of and therefore have high expectations of their work, attitude and behaviour. We hope you will support us by encouraging your child to: be punctual; complete and hand in homework and reading books on time; take a pride in their appearance and their work and above all that your child has respect for themselves and others. Should you have any concerns about your child, please feel free to come and speak to us in the playground at the end of the school day.

Text Box: Water Bottles

The children are encouraged to drink water during the day to keep them hydrated. Please send a plastic sports top water bottle into school, labelled with your child’s name. The bottle will stay in school and monitors will fill them with fresh water each day. The children are not allowed juice.
   Text Box: School Uniform

Please check that your child’s school uniform and PE kit are clearly labelled with you child’s name. Unnamed clothing is very difficult to return to their owners. If your child misplaces any of their school belongings, please take a look on the fences around the playground.

Text Box: PE Information

We have PE twice a week. Please send your child’s PE kit into school as soon as possible. It can be left in school until half term. Sandshoes are needed for PE. Tracksuits can be worn outside when it’s cold. PE days for Y3/4 KG and Y3/4 LM are Tuesday and Wednesday and for Y3/4 CR Wednesday and Friday.

Text Box: What are we Learning this Term?

We are beginning the term with a Climate Change week and Y3 and Y4 are working on Glacier/Ice sheets, Sea Ice Retreat and Sea Level Rise. We will be investigating the differences between glaciers, ice sheets and sea ice; showing children what is happening to our planet due to climate change and the effects that their loss may have on our lives.

Our main topic this term is entitled ‘Plague.’ Our challenge is to research all the Great Plagues of history including biblical times and produce an encyclopaedia of germs.

Science: Humans, Health and Welfare, Sound.

History/Geography: Research historical plagues and make timelines, history of medicine and three great discoveries, facts and statistics on recent pandemics and an historical narrative based on Plague and the Great Fire of London.

Art and Design Technology: Illustrations for encyclopaedia, painting in the style of Picasso, 3D sculpture using clay or recycled materials.

ICT: Using the internet to research history of plagues, pandemics medicines and great discoveries. Working on DEA badges.

Text Box: Certificates

Can you please ensure that when your child wins a certificate they keep them in a safe place. The certificates can be counted towards further awards (bronze, silver and gold) and a prize, but the children must count their certificates and bring them into school to their teacher.

Text Box: Helping at Home

We are aware that a lot of hard work goes into your child’s learning at home. We hope that together we can help your child to flourish and make excellent progress across their own learning path.

Homework Information

Reading Books – all Y3/4 classes
Please make sure your child reads at home for 5-10 minutes every night. Remember to make a comment and sign their reading record book so that we can make sure that books are changed as regularly as possible. As your child takes part in Guided Reading in class, they will be heard reading, but it will be guided reading texts and not their reading book.

Ocean Maths
Every fortnight on a Thursday, to be returned the following Monday.

Spelling and Mathematics – all Y3/4 classes
Spelling given on a Monday to learn for Friday. Maths sent home on a Thursday and returned to school on Tuesday.

Literacy, science and homework for other subjects will be sent home when supportive of the work being covered in class.
