Y5/6 –
Making Toast

In Mrs Shields’ class we
have started the year off in literacy by learning about instructions. We have so far looked at the various places
we might find instructions and why they are so important, as well as the
technical vocabulary used within them.
To make one of our lessons a
bit more fun and practical, we decided that since this lesson happens first
thing on a morning, we would start the day off by making some toast. Each child had a go at putting their bread in
the toaster, waiting until it was ready and then they could put on some butter
and jam – mmmmm!

Once everyone had done this
and enjoyed eating their toast, we then recounted what we had done and each
wrote it down in a series of step by step instructions so that someone who had
never made toast before, would know what to do.
This was definitely a
successful lesson enjoyed by all!
