Ice Sheets and Glaciers
As part of our work on Climate Change we were looking at the
indicators, the clues that tell us that the climate is changing. Our focus was
on Ice sheets and Glaciers.

To show how ice sheets move we began by using our playdough to make models of “natural” environments. It was
fun creating volcanoes, mountains, valleys, rivers and lakes.

We then used a cornflour and water mix
to be our ice sheets. We poured the mixture over the models.

We could see how the ice sheets would build up, that mountain ranges and valleys constrain the movement of
ice.
The ice sheets move away from the ice centres.

It became clear that when ice melts it would flow towards the
sea and the sea levels would rise.

We all enjoyed the activity and learnt a lot!
