Memories
Over the years we have had thousands of
children through our school gate, which has provided teachers and pupils alike
with memories to cherish. Please see some of these memories below, if you have
any you would like to share please don’t hesitate to get in-touch with us.

It was
great to hear about the old school, It brought back many memories good and
not so good of my school days from 1935 to 1944 at St. Phills, In my days it
was a mixed school and went up to standard seven, all our teachers were
female (but could handle the cane) as the male teachers from 1939 were
serving in the armed forces, The head teacher in the seniors (top floor) was
a Sister Mary, the parish priest was a Father Rickerby who visited the school
quite often and was called in to frighten the daylights out of any of the
boys that got a little out of hand at times, I am now 72 years of age with a
failing memory after having open heart surgery, a pacemaker implant and
running on Ever Ready Batteries, I recall Ayesome Park FC directly behind the
school and the side street where the entrance to the boys playground was
situated, I with my family (the whole tribe) lived in Gresham Rd, my sister
and three of my brothers all attended St. Phills, All my family live in
Australia now, My mother died at the age of 96 due to hard work as a bouncer
in a Kindergarten (joking) my elder sister Mary and my younger brother Henry
are also deceased, There was a mass migration of the Gribbins from
Middlesbrough in the fifties and as stated we all live down under now. I
really enjoyed your web site, I have printed it out and passed your www on to
other ex pats from St.Phills. Thank you
and we the Gribbin tribe send all our love to you and yours. Bill Gribbin J.P. |
