What is a bully?
A bully is someone who:
·
Pushes you around
·
Hurts you by fighting
·
Tries to get money from
you
·
Threatens you in various
ways
·
Tries to make you do
something you don’t want to do
·
Calls you names
·
Makes fun of you or your
family
·
Influences others not to
be your friend
·
Teases you and makes you
unhappy
·
Makes sexist or racist
remarks about you or your friends
·
Damages or steals your
property
·
Identify the incident as
bullying
·
Isolate the bully from
the situation
·
Inform class teachers
·
Inform parents of both
children
·
Encourage the child to
recognise that his/her behaviour is bullying
·
Insist that the child is
collected and taken home during lunchtime for an agreed period if bullying behaviour continues
·
Exclude the child from
school for a set period if the bullying behaviour still continues.
Help us
to prevent bullying by:
·
Making sure that your
child understands what a bully is
·
Making clear to your child
that you strongly disapprove of bullying
·
Encouraging your child
to speak out
·
Recognising that the
school acts to prevent bullying, not just deals with bullying incidents
·
Recognising that in
handling any incident the school has a responsibility to both the victim and
the bully.
If your child is being bullied:
DO NOT look for someone to
blame
DO NOT encourage your child to
give as good as he / she gets
DO NOT confront the bully or
his / her parents yourself. In our experience that can make the situation worse
DO look for someone else to
help
We believe that prevention is better than cure, but do accept
that bullying can take place in our school. We need your help.
