School Meals

School meals in Sacred Heart School fully comply with the latest nutritional guidelines and will help your child to get at least one third of the recommended daily intake of 14 important nutrient groups each day.

Every year we make significant improvements to the food we offer. We work hard with suppliers to be able to use quality ingredients and from local sources wherever possible.

§  Salad bars are available giving a wide selection of healthy food combinations. Children can make up their own salad so are more likely to eat everything on their trays.

§  A choice of fruit or fruit-based desserts are on offer each day, helping your child to reach the all important five portions a day.

§  Tasty homemade dishes are available daily – warming traditional meals in the winter months and lighter dishes for the summer.

A free meal is provided for children whose parents are in receipt of certain benefits. If you think your child may be entitled to free meals please contact the school.

Every effort is made to ensure that children receiving free school meals cannot be distinguished from other children. If you wish your child to bring a packed lunch to school, Mrs Tuck or Mrs Walker must be notified at least one week in advance and the arrangements must continue until the following end of term.

Should your child be eligible for free school meals and wishes to bring a packed lunch it is important that you continue to complete the review forms.

Packed Lunches

At Sacred Heart School we actively promote the importance of healthy eating.

To support our ethos we would like to ask for the help of parents who provide packed lunches for their children.

With school meals now having to comply to strict nutritional standards, we need your support to ensure that all food eaten at school is nutritious and balanced, so we would like to ask you NOT to include chocolate, sweets, fizzy drinks and crisps in lunch boxes.
